Sweet Design Company: Happy Father's Day!

By Catherine McCulloch

Sweet Design Company was asked to create a display to showcase the fabulous Father's Day themed sugar cookies created by Bake Sale in Toronto. Since these cookies are so special, not to mention scrumptious, we decided to frame them. Paper inspired by men's shirt fabric and argyle socks was used to mat the pictures.

Bake Sale is selling the cookies in boxed sets with tags we designed just for them. Whether the dad in your life is sporty, all business, a fix-it guy or even a couch potato, there's a set of cookies for him. Happy Father's Day!

Sweet Design Company: Butterfly Baby

By Catherine McCulloch

Butterflies signify new life and what better symbol for a precious little girl's baptism. Evangeline's parents were thrilled to share the joy of their baby girl's baptism with friends and family. A spring garden aesthetic with full blossoms and butterflies was the theme for this pink and white dessert table.

A variety of pink desserts included cake pops, four flavours of cupcakes, whoopie pies, petit fours, macarons, chocolate pecan tarts, cherry almond tarts, empire cookies and scrumptious butterfly spice cookies as well as lots of chocolate and candy.

The centrepiece to the entire table was a spectacular three-tiered cake, each layer a different flavour. The stripes in the middle layer picked up the stripe theme on the cupcake toppers, dessert tags and cake pop flags. Beaded wires were moulded into the shape of butterfly antennae. It was almost too pretty to cut!

Sweet Design Company: Happy Mother's Day

By Catherine McCulloch

I grew up with a wonderful mom who loved to bake. She was famous in her community for her chocolate chip cookies (see earlier post for recipe) but she could whip up anything from a buttercream frosted marble birthday cake, delicate lemon squares, ooey gooey carmel squares, flakey scones to my all time favorite, Hello Dollies stuffed full of chocolate, pecans and coconut. The first time I stepped into Bake Sale I felt like I was back in my mom's kitchen.

The aroma of just baked treats greets you at the door. An assortment of pretty cupcakes in 7 different flavours, decadent bars, delicious cookies and lovely cakes call your name. Their products are fresh, made from scratch and you really can taste the difference. The only dilemma for me is the choice between coconut and chocolate. And don't even get me started on the tart lemon drop cake!

It was certainly our pleasure to design dessert tables for the windows in both of Bake Sale's Toronto locations to showcase their gorgeous occasion cakes and wonderful desserts. The theme for this sweet table was a floral Mother's Day display in pink, orange and yellow.

The centerpiece is a 3 tiered Blossom Cake in ombre shades of pink and orange. To continue the floral theme, Bake Sale created daisy and dahlia sugar cookies as well as rose and hydrangea topped cupcakes. They also made buttercream swirl cupcakes decorated with tiny dragees to repeat the tiny white dot pattern on the middle layer of the cake. We added floral cupcake toppers for a little more punch and to send a message of Mother's Day love. To provide a little salty counterpoint to all the sweet treats there were white chocolate dipped pretzels with colorful candy drizzle. Cakepops in the same color palate were decorated with bright straw flags and coordinating ribbon.

To all the fabulous moms who put in so much time, effort, committment and most of all love - Happy Mother's Day!

Sweet Design Company: Happy Easter

By Catherine McCulloch

Hand dipped Easter eggs in soft shades of aqua, pink and yellow were the starting point for this Easter dessert mantle. Sweet treats in coordinating colors added some contrast to the pale blue walls. This cake themed display featured pink velvet cupcakes, lemon zinger cupcakes and a spectacular white chocolate and raspberry mousse ruffle cake. Candy included jelly rabbits and of course, chocolate eggs.

A mantle is a great place to set up after-dinner treats when entertaining at Easter. Not only does it free up room in the kitchen and dining room but it also serves double duty as decor. (And the mantle is high enough that the kids can't reach the chocolate until after they've had their dinner!)

May the sweet message of Easter fill you with hope. Peace be with you.

Sweet Design Company: Caterina's Baptism

By Catherine McCulloch

A baptism is a cause for joy and celebration. For the baptism of our client's baby girl Caterina, we created a large dessert table at the reception for all of their guests to enjoy. We also styled a mini version of the sweet display with a soft snowy backdrop.

The theme for the party was vintage elegance in pastel shades of dusty rose and cream with a tea party aesthetic. Silver accents in cake pedestals, candy jars and the teapot added shimmer while cut crystal plates and dishes brought another layer of texture and sparkle. Beautiful bone china teacups in various shades of pink came from the extensive collection of Vintage Dish Rental. Placing a couple of teacups on the candelabra provided a little whimsy to the table.

In keeping with the delicate treats found at a tea party we included gorgeous flower shaped lemon sugar cookies with tiny polka dots from Adell Schneer who creates art on each cookie. Chocolate carmel truffles, white chocolate dipped pretzels, and strawberry macarons from European Patisserie were favorite treats along with cupcakes in chocolate mint, lemon raspberry and vanilla. Little bowls of candy added flavour variety and color.

A winter scene with soft white snow was the perfect backdrop for this dessert table. A caring family filled with love and faith is the perfect backdrop for Caterina's childhood.
